Located on the southeast coast of Galveston Island and Pelican Island, Galveston is a popular resort city with a bay on one side and the Gulf of Mexico on the other. Offering beautiful views, reasonable housing prices, and great returns on rental investments, Galveston frequently appears on Top 10 lists of where to buy or rent a beach house in the United States.

And why not? Known as the Playground of the South, the city has a humid subtropical climate that seldom falls below 50˚ or 60˚ even in winter. Just 50 miles from Houston, there’s plenty to do in Galveston that attracts vacationers, plus many advantages to attract permanent residents.

• Plentiful beaches invite sunbathers, surfers, and water sports enthusiasts
• Plenty of opportunities for boat tours, fishing charters, and whale and dolphin watching
• Pleasure Pier with amusement rides and nearby Moody Gardens, which has a waterpark, aquarium, and rainforest.
• Three golf courses engage players who want a competitive course with beautiful views.
• Six historical districts with one of the largest collections of historically significant 19^th century in the country plus an array of outstanding modern architecture.
• A lively arts district that showcases Texas artists in the Galveston Arts Center, plus an art walk held every six weeks throughout the city.

While Galveston attracts 6.5 million tourists from Houston, the rest of Texas, and around the world who come to vacation each year, the area has a vibrant economy that sustains nearly 48,000 people year-round. While many are involved in the tourism industry, the city is a major shipping port and a terminal for several cruise lines. There are also three universities and a major hospital right in the city.
